Media Sponsorship Guidelines

Energy Priorities participates in selected conferences as a "media sponsor." Here is information about banners and podcast spots. To propose a media sponsorship or request more information, please review this page and then contact us using the link inside.

Rev #10, Dec 2010 - http://tinyurl.com/epmediasponsor

We want your clean-energy conference or event to be a success, so more people will learn what they need to know to take action. We agree to selected "media sponsorships" in good faith and in the public interest. In return, we ask that you help us spread the word about Energy Priorities.

Executive summary

  • Your event's text or banner ad in a specified department on EnergyPriorities.com.
  • Our logo wherever paid sponsor listings appear on your web site and in your printed materials.
  • No money changes hands for this type of sponsorship.
  • E-mail blasts to our subscribers are not available.
  • We do not promise news coverage as part of a media sponsorship.
  • This web page includes the essence of our guidelines and tech specs. Please read it through.
  • Here's our contact page for more info.

Banner ads

Every banner on Energy Priorities meets certain guidelines:

The banner must promote the conference. It will be linked to a page about the conference on the conference web site, or to a similar page at a conference directory or registration service. Banners and text are subject to acceptance.

Banner formats

  • You provide a banner in JPG, GIF, or PNG formats.
  • If you prefer, you may provide 130 characters of copy for a text-only banner.
  • Our banner space is 160 pixels wide and banners can be any height up to 160 pixels.
  • We ask that your banner be up to professional design standards.
  • Animations, if used at all, should run no longer than 10 seconds, and run once and stop without looping.
  • Unprofessional animations (you know the ones) will not be accepted.
  • We don't currently run banners in Flash, in video, or with sound.

Banner space

Your conference banner will appear on all articles in a relevant department -- typically 100 or so articles. Banners appear in the narrow column of the applicable pages, in chronological order. They will be removed after the conference begins.

Your banner might not appear right away. Space is limited, and we post event banners in chronological order by event ending date. Banners for events farther in the future may wait to appear, until some earlier events have passed.

Banners don't appear on the front page of Energy Priorities, or on the administrative pages (subscribe, search, etc.), or in the About section. Certain articles that appear in a department will not carry your banner. For example, if your media sponsorship includes displaying your banner in the Buildings department, then it would appear on the main page of Buildings and in the articles in that department. Exception: an article in another department that is cross-referenced in Buildings would not display the banner, while an article in Buildings that is cross-referenced in other departments will carry the banner.

Banner artwork is hosted on Energy Priorities servers.

Media sponsorships do not extend to our content when it appears elsewhere, e.g., when articles are republished.

E-mail

We do not offer advertising in our e-mail notifications to subscribers.

Podcast spots

Promotional spots in our podcasts are sometimes an alternative to banner ads. Spots are 10 seconds or less (it's longer than it seems). A spot runs in pre-roll, post-roll, or break, in one podcast episode to be specified when we agree to be a media sponsor.

A podcast spot should be provided as a script that will be read by the podcast's host. All spots are subject to acceptance and editing. They will remain in the podcast episode at least until the first day of the conference.

Conference sponsorship spots are available in the Energy Priorities podcast.

Radio

Radio program underwriting is paid, and not eligible for in-kind media sponsorship exchanges. If you're interested in underwriting, please contact us.

Our logo

Our logo will appear wherever paid sponsor logos appear on your conference web site and in your printed conference materials. Our logo online will be linked to either our home page (http://energypriorities.com/) or our department in which your banner appears.

Our logos are available for download. They must not be modified or distorted. If you need something specific, please ask.

If we feel that the representation of our name or logo reflects poorly on the Energy Priorities brand, or placement of our logo is inadequate based on the guidelines above, we may end the sponsorship and ask to have our logo removed from your materials.

Arranging a media sponsorship

An exchange of clear, simple e-mails should suffice to confirm our agreement regarding a media sponsorship. These guidelines are part of our agreement.

To propose a media sponsorship or request more information, please contact us. Tip: Please put "media sponsorship" in the subject line of your message. We get a lot of e-mail, especially about conferences.

It may take a few weeks to arrange a sponsorship and post your banner.

These guidelines are subject to change without notice. Either party may end the sponsorship, with an e-mail notice to the other party within one U.S. business day.
